This course has been discontinued.

Part I of this interactive online course teaches you about the International Building Code and how it’s designed to limit the spread of fire inside and outside of buildings. You will learn about active and passive fire protection and the different ways buildings and occupants are protected from fire.

Part II discusses Health Safety. For people to be healthy, we must have certain basic things. We need adequate light to work or live in a building. We need fresh air that is free from contaminants. When it is cold, we need to be provided with heat to keep from getting sick. We also need freshwater and sanitary waste facilities.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Describe how the International Building Code protects the structure and occupants from fire using passive and active fire protection
Identify any fire and smoke protection systems required
Identify fire-resistance-rated assemblies
Develop a more detailed understanding of the most commonly applied health safety provisions of the 2015 International Building Code
Identify the different types of materials to be used on the exterior of buildings to protect from moisture and other elements
Determine interior finish requirements to ensure proper installation of lighting, ventilation, exhaust systems, and attic spaces
